Security forces have killed five terrorists and wounded two others during an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in North Waziristan on Tuesday, according to state media.

The operation targeted suspected hideouts of members of Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by Pakistan for members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The latest operation comes amid continued terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where security forces have conducted several operations in recent weeks.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces after the operation.

Zardari said, “The timely and effective actions of the security forces are playing an important role in foiling the nefarious designs of terrorist elements.”

According to state media, Shehbaz said that operations against terrorism will continue until its complete elimination.

He added that eradicating terrorism and achieving sustainable peace under the government’s Azm-i-Istehkam vision remained a top priority.

Security forces have reported several operations in KP in recent weeks. On October 2, seven terrorists were killed in an IBO in North Waziristan, while three were killed in an operation in Mir Ali on September 30.

Five terrorists were killed in an IBO in Bara on September 29, while four were killed in Dera Ismail Khan on Monday, according to reports.

The province has also witnessed deadly attacks. A suicide bombing at the Aman Mela police checkpost in Darazinda, Dera Ismail Khan, on September 26 killed 12 people and injured 35.

On September 18, an attack on the old Police Lines in Kohat killed 23 people and injured about 100 others. Eight terrorists were killed during an overnight clearance operation.
