Police in Lahore have arrested a motorcyclist with 113 outstanding e-challans for traffic violations, imposing on him a fine of Rs190,000.
According to Lahore Traffic Police, patrolling officers Ghulam Arabi and Tanveer checked the motorcycle’s e-challan record during the inspection and found 113 unpaid violations.
The record showed that the motorcyclist had received 89 e-challans for riding without a helmet and 24 for violating traffic signals.
Traffic police fined the motorcyclist Rs190,000 and impounded the motorcycle. The authorities also shifted the vehicle to Factory Area Police Station.
While a spike has been reported in number of e-challans for citizens of Lahore in recent months, the government also offers a mechanism to challenge the same.
Citizens who believe an e-challan has been issued incorrectly can challenge it through the official PSCA e-challan portal. They first need to enter the required details on the portal to access the relevant challan.
After accessing the challan, applicants can check its details and select the “Review” option if they want to dispute the violation.
Applicants then need to provide the required information and submit the review request online by following the instructions provided on the portal.
The relevant authorities will examine the complaint and the disputed challan before informing the applicant about the decision once the review process is complete.
The online facility allows citizens to submit requests to review incorrect or disputed e-challans from home, without the need for unnecessary visits to traffic police offices.
