The bodies of five members of a family, including two young girls, were found at a house in a private housing society in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area on Tuesday, rescue officials said.
The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Shahzaib, his wife Saba, also 40, their daughters Arya and Aizal, aged four and five respectively and Shahzaib’s 18-year-old sister Shumaila.
Police suspect suicide, stating that Shahzaib had allegedly left a note citing financial difficulties. He was unemployed and had reportedly been selling property inherited from his late father to manage his expenses.
Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
He directed the police to investigate all aspects of the case impartially to establish the cause of the five deaths. He also ordered officials to collect evidence from the scene, conduct forensic examinations and complete the required legal formalities.
The IG further instructed police to investigate any possible criminal involvement and keep him updated on the progress of the inquiry.
The incident comes weeks after five bodies, including those of a man, his wife and their three children, were found in a flat in Karachi’s Ahsanabad area in the Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate (SITE) neighbourhood.
Police had also suspected suicide in that case, saying that the bodies appeared to have been there for several days. The man, identified as Dr Umar, had reportedly been unemployed after a cancer diagnosis and was facing financial difficulties.
