The body of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri, who was reportedly linked to a video showing ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving Bangladesh by aircraft on August 5, 2024, was recovered from the Turag River on Wednesday, one day after he went missing.

A duty officer at Uttarkhan Police Station confirmed the recovery on Thursday morning, saying that members of the Tongi River Police Outpost found his body near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on October 28.

According to the police, officers reached the area on Wednesday after receiving information through Bangladesh’s national emergency helpline 999. They subsequently recovered the body from the river.

Tahsif came into the spotlight over reports that he recorded footage of Hasina leaving Bangladesh by aircraft on August 5, 2024, the day she was ousted from power.

The body was found clad in a black shirt and white trousers. Police found a wristwatch on the arm and an iPhone in the pocket.

Authorities later transferred the body to the morgue at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for an autopsy. Constable Rakib said that the autopsy will help determine the cause of death, which has not yet been established.

Police have not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding Tahsif’s disappearance or the events leading to the recovery of his body.
