CoRe Alliance, in collaboration with the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), held a ceremony at the Pak-EPA office in Islamabad to mark the handover of 5,000 co-branded reusable tote bags as part of its public awareness campaign to promote sustainable alternatives and reduce reliance on single-use plastics in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
The initiative was undertaken in line with the Single-Use Plastics (Prohibition) Regulations, 2023, applicable to ICT. It aimed to encourage responsible consumption practices, promote the adoption of reusable alternatives, strengthen public awareness, support positive behavioral change towards more sustainable practices and contribute to establishing better systems in Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by Pak-EPA officials, including Dr. Mohsina Zubair and Dr. Zaigham Abbas, Directors (Lab/NEQS), Pak-EPA, along with CoRe Alliance CEO Sheikh Waqar Ahmad, Board Member Pervaiz Akhtar, and other CoRe Alliance representatives and members.
Syed Abrar Hussain, Director General, Pak-EPA, stated:
“Promoting reusable alternatives is key to reducing single-use plastics and encouraging responsible consumption. Initiatives such as CoRe Alliance demonstrate how collective action and public-private collaboration can translate environmental commitments into practical solutions. We encourage the wider industry to adopt and scale similar initiatives in partnership with government and other stakeholders to create lasting environmental impact.”
Sheikh Waqar Ahmad, CEO, CoRe Alliance, added:
“At CoRe Alliance, we believe that building better systems towards a circular economy requires collective action, strong public-private partnerships and greater consumer awareness. Through this initiative involving 5,000 reusable tote bags, we aim to encourage behavioral change, promote responsible resource management and advance sustainable alternatives. We appreciate Pak-EPA’s collaboration in supporting this shared objective.”

The initiative reflects CoRe Alliance’s continued commitment to supporting Pakistan’s transition towards a circular economy, advocating for harmonized and phased Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) frameworks across Pakistan and establishing better systems in Pakistan. Through industry collaboration, policy engagement, public awareness and practical interventions, CoRe Alliance continues to work towards advancing sustainable packaging, strengthening resource management systems and promoting circular economy practices.
