A video shot at the residence of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan has sparked criticism on social media after a barefoot child holding a urine bag was spotted in it, prompting questions about the child’s treatment and possible child labour.
The footage emerged after politician Shabbir Ahmed Usmani Mayo visited Hayat Khan at his residence to inquire about his health. The accompanying caption said Usmani, the coordinator to the prime minister on Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, visited the MNA and prayed for his recovery.
The child’s identity and relationship to the household remain unclear. There is also no confirmation that the child works as a domestic worker or that he was employed by the family. However, the footage prompted users on X to question why a child appeared to be carrying the urine bag for an adult.
“Why can’t he hold his own urine bag,” one user asked, while another wrote: “Why should somebody else’s child carry your piss, you fool?”
One post questioned the apparent disparity in treatment, writing: “Why don’t they get their own family members to carry their urine bag, if this boy happens not to be a family member.”
The criticism also turned towards Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, the MNA’s son, with users questioning the contrast between his public role and the scene in the video.
“His son @Ranaskindarhaya is Punjab’s minister of education. Why isn’t this young boy in school studying instead of walking around barefoot with a piss bag,” one post read.
Another comment described the footage as an example of political privilege, writing: “Vintage Pakistani political elite: Punjab’s Aitchison/foreign qualified education minister pretends to be a progressive liberal working to educate children. At home, a child domestic worker is carrying urine bag for his ex MNA father [sie].”
One person called for legal action, stating: “He must be booked for child labour.”
The child’s circumstances and the circumstances surrounding the video have not been independently established.
