Five terrorists have been killed in separate operations in the Kuram Garhi Mamandkhel and Shabri Kala Bhart areas of Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), on Tuesday, police have said.

Two terrorists died during a joint intelligence-based operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), district police and Pakistan Army in Kuram Garhi Mamandkhel, within the limits of Bannu Cantt police station, on Tuesday night.

Police said that intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists in the area who were planning a major attack. Following the information, personnel from CTD Bannu, district police and the army reached the location to arrest them.

The terrorists opened fire as security personnel approached, prompting the forces to retaliate. After the exchange of fire ended, personnel searched the area and found two terrorists dead.

The CTD identified one of them as Mohib Khan, alias Sameen, a resident of Garera Imam Shah in Bannu district. According to the department, he was a local commander of Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP) and was involved in several terrorist activities in Bannu.

CTD added that authorities were working to establish the identity of the second individual.

In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, three terrorists were killed during a clash with a police peace committee in Shabri Kala Bhart, sources said.

Authorities have yet to identify the three individuals, while further details about the incident remain unavailable.
