The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Fact Check account has rejected reports that a Pakistan Army officer died at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during the Pakistan–Sri Lanka match.

A social media post claimed that a 50-year-old army officer lost consciousness at the stadium, died of a heart attack at a hospital, citing rescue sources. The ministry wrote on X on Monday that the claim is false.

It said the man worked for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), did not attend the match and had no role in the event.

According to the ministry, he suffered an electric shock, after which his family called Rescue 1122. Rescuers took him to a local hospital, where records list electrocution as the cause of death. The ministry said further inquiry will follow the prescribed procedure.

“Linking this medical emergency to the cricket match is misleading,” the statement stressed. The ministry added that the late man’s job at the PCB does not connect the incident to the match.

It urged the public to verify information before sharing claims on social media, while also sharing a report from New Town Police Station about the incident.
