Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to improve coordination between their interior ministries and signed an agreement to cooperate against terrorism, drug trafficking and organised crime.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Turkish counterpart Mustafa Çiftçi at the Turkish Ministry of Interior in Istanbul on Friday, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s interior ministry.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation through technical support, exchanges of experts and joint initiatives involving cyber policing, the Anti-Narcotics Force and the National Police Academy.

During the meeting, Naqvi briefed Çiftçi on the results of Pakistan’s crackdown on networks involved in illegal immigration.

Çiftçi said that the rate of illegal immigration from Pakistan to Turkiye had dropped from 70 percent to 17 percent. He appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and acknowledged the decline.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Naqvi arrived in Istanbul earlier on an official visit to Turkiye and received official welcome at the airport.
