The Saudi-led coalition said early Wednesday that it intercepted and destroyed five drones launched toward Saudi Arabia.
Coalition spokesman Brig. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said on the US social media platform X that they intercepted and destroyed four drones in the regions of Medina and the Eastern Province.
In a separate statement, al-Maliki said coalition forces had intercepted and destroyed a drone heading toward the eastern region.
The incidents come amid escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi group, which has launched missile and drone attacks against the kingdom, while the Saudi-led coalition has carried out airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthi group since 2015. The Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since 2014.
