Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister (FM) Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will be travelling to Riyadh on Monday for a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee (SPDC) established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

According to reports quoting the Foreign Office, the meeting will bring together top officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to review regional developments and cooperation under the agreement.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry separately confirmed on Sunday that the SPDC would convene in Riyadh on Monday. It said the meeting would address recent regional developments and assess progress towards institutionalising the alliance.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defence Minister Yasar Guler and Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu will attend, along with officials from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the ministry said.

It may be noted that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah trilateral agreement on August 7 to establish a framework for collective security and defence cooperation.

Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack against all three.

The meeting comes as Saudi Arabia faces attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi group.

The Houthis have carried out missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea, as well as airports, energy facilities and other strategic infrastructure.
