The Peshawar High Court has dismissed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi’s petition challenging notices issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The petition challenged the notices issued to Afridi by the commission in connection with alleged violations of the election code of conduct.
The court heard arguments from both sides before reserving its decision. It later announced that the petition had been dismissed.
The dismissal means the proceedings initiated by the ECP against Afridi will continue before the commission.
Earlier, the Peshawar High Court had warned counsel for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi that no further adjournments will be granted in a petition challenging an Election Commission notice over alleged intimidation of government officials during the Haripur by-election.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Muhammad Fahim Wali issued the warning after Afridi’s counsel sought more time to prepare his arguments.
The court directed that if the petitioner’s side failed to appear at the next hearing, the case would be decided on the available record and in accordance with the law.
